The Athletic Union Executive
The Athletic Union organisation regards democracy as an important factor in how it is run. Therefore any decisions, motions or ideas must be debated and voted on at our AU council. The AU council is made up of a representative from every sports club, enabling every club to have their input heard and have a vote on any decisions to be made. The AU council sits once a month and dates and minutes are available online at www.upsu.net/au.
The AU Executive Committee is a group of 6 elected students from the AU who work alongside the VP Sports Officer to enhance the sporting experiences of the AU. Each of the 6 officers has their own roles and responsibilities as well as having voting rights at the monthly AU council meetings that they host.
Our 6 AU Executive members:
Athletic Union Chair: First and foremost this is a position of responsibility. They are responsible for chairing the AU exec and AU council meetings, attending bi-monthly University Sports Liaison Group meetings and is a representative face for the AU with the VP Sports Officer. The chair informs the exec members of meetings and ensuring they are completing their roles and keeping to their deadlines. Finally, they represent the VP Sports Officer when they are absent.
Athletic Union Media Exec: Works with the editor of Pugwash newspaper, gathering content and writing articles for the paper. Liaising with clubs to gain match reports and photos. Being creative and coming up with new ideas for the paper. The media exec promotes all AU events and the AU in general, enhancing its reputation. They liaison with the SU media staff for online activity.
Athletic Union RAG Coordinator: Sits on RAG’s committee as a representative of the AU and being a link between the two. Organises events such as; silly sports day, slave auction and the naked calendar. Increases involvement of the AU in RAG.
Athletic Union Tour Exec (& AU Secretary): To organise the AU’s sports tour at Easter, encouraging as many clubs as possible to get involved. Is responsible for taking the minutes for the AU Exec and upload them to the website.
Athletic Union Events & Publicity Coordinator: Is responsible for promoting student sport and creating the culture of spectator sport. They must liaise with the VP Sports Officer on key AU events to enhance them further. They are responsible for forming an AU fan base.
Athletic Union Participation Exec: Is responsible for promoting the Intra-mural system and its events using club contacts, halls of residents and the SU. They attend fortnightly IMS committee meetings and taking minutes as well as working alongside IMS reps to form a tournament each semester. They feedback to the AU Exec and work with the IMS coordinator and VP Sports Officer to enhance the programme. Working to help traditionally underrepresented groups become involved with the AU.
