Notice of General Meeting

i) The date and time of the meeting:

4pm Thursday 20th September.

ii) The place of the meeting:

The Marquee on Gun House Green

iii) The business of the meeting:

To discuss and vote on the Union supporting and attending the NUS Demonstration in London on 21st November 2012.

iv)  Details of the constituency of Union members who are eligible to participate in the General Meeting.

In adherence with Bye Law 2 and article 15 of the University of Portsmouth Students’ Union Memorandum and Articles of Association, Full Members of the Union are  eligible to participate in General Meetings.

Full Members are defined as:

• Each and every student who has not opted out by notifying the University of Portsmouth of his or her wish not to be a member of the Union and

• The Officer Trustees of the Union

Students who are removed from the register of the roll of students of the University shall automatically cease to be members of the Union.

Associate members of the Union who are not registered students at the University of Portsmouth are not entitled to participate in General Meetings.

v) Procedure to appoint a Proxy at the General Meeting:

Every member of the Union has the right to appoint another member of the Union to act as their proxy at the General Meeting if they are unable to attend. Anyone who wishes to allow another member to act as their proxy in the vote must request this via an e-mail from their University of Portsmouth student account to lorna.reavley@upsu.net clearly stating:

• Their name, address and HEMIS number ( student number)

• The name and HEMIS number (student number) of the student they wish to appoint as their proxy.

• The general meeting they wish the proxy to be used at.

All requests to appoint a proxy must be received by 5pm Wednesday 19th September in order to be eligible.
