Ok, so microsoft have launched what is rumoured to be their last attempt at making an Operating System because of the cost of R+D etc etc (Believe it if you wish),and Bill Gates said that we all should be "wow-ed" by it.
I Wasnt.
I bought the Home Premium upgrade version (their are 5 different versions) for my nice new-ish laptop and set out in high hopes. Oh how were they soon dashed.
When I bought my computer, the selling company (who shall go nameless here - but their not a big manufacturer) assured me that the computer was vista capable, even putting a nice little sticker on the case. And yes they were right, but only just. The laptop in question has a nice Dual-Core processor (ask a tech friend if you baffled by what im saying), 2 GB of Ram and i nice 120 GB HDD. Now vista is struggling with this setup. There is noticable lag when trying to run too many programs at once, something that didnt occur with XP, even the Media Centre Edition I had. Not to mention the problems with the programs i had installed.
Basically it took me 5 hours (7pm-12am) to do an upgrade from XP, i.e. installing vista over the top of XP. Goodness knows how long it would have taken me if i'd had to wipe the computer, install windows and then put the programs back on. But even then I spent the better part of a day updating things lik my Firewall, printer, webcam and keyboard drivers, and some of them still arent working as well as they did with XP. Oh, and the company i bought the laptop off refuse to offer me support with vista, even though they sold me it?! - I mean how stupid is that!!!
So although XP is being officially being retired at the end of 2008, take your time over vista, and get to know it well before you completely do the switch over. Or buy a Mac with OS X -Vista is a semi-rip-off of some of the features!
Be warned my friends, The Wow isnt what its made out to me - something about the grass being greener on the other side?

So I have this module at uni that requires me to not only produce a video but to write a 3rd person report on the processes and skills involved from a personal perspective. Seeing as this video has to be a professional quality one, you would have thought they could have told by the quality of your video if you've learnt the necessary skills or not!?

In reference to Chris's blog about the danger of fire (after being partially responsible for the burning down of a tesco's) I know someone who set their flat on fire cause he left his computer on and then went somewhere else for a few days.
Now the flat in James Watson in uninhabitable and the gentleman in question is not very popular with anyone in James Watson after the fire caused by his computer caused everyone to come out for 2 hours, beginning at 0530 one wednesday morning last term!
So watch out!

Hello!
I'm kinda new to this online blog stuff (which seems a bit crazy being on a course in the Creative Tech department!) so I thought i'd just being by saying a bit about me!
I'm Matt, 3rd year Entertainment Technology, or ET student. I come from Birmingham, which for you information is not in the north (for you southerners), not in the south (for you northerners) but in the midlands. I live about 500 yards from Cadburys World, which is handy when I want some chocolate!
I work here at the uni in various roles, so seem to have a semi-encyclopedic knowledge of the uni and its workings. Which is a bit disconcerting sometimes. But oh well.
I'm sure this is going to end up one of those things that i end up writing at stupid hours of the morning when im really too tired to be doing such things!
See ya all later!
