The show is in its second year now and was organised by the People & Planet society. The first show was held in December 2005 to celebrate the University gaining “
Fairtrade
University
” Status and was an amazing celebration of dance and culture with many different societies taking part. Local legends, the SUMO djs provided the after party tunes and we collected 400 signatures asking the Government to treat developing countries fairly with international trade rules.
We even went to
Downing Street
a few days later to hand in our “Votes for Trade Justice” along with 750,000 others!
The show this year was an altogether swankier affair as we had a top international model involved. Catwalk glamour was interspersed with our own fantastic dance club and break dancers. Catch the show on BBC2 @ 12 noon, Sunday 10th February.
As part of Fairtrade Fortnight the People & Planet society have organised a talk on “The Future of Fairtrade” on Thursday 1st March @ 7pm in
Park
Building
2.23. You can find out more from some really interesting speakers including Simeon Greene who represents
Caribbean
banana farmers, and there will be free Fairtrade refreshments!
