Problem with a standard Joomla! site

I was wondering whether anyone is able to help me de-bug my Joomla site at www.gapstudentsonline.com

It was hit by a trojan virus on boxing day, and I've been trying to recover it from the backup i made on the 6th December. However since i've tried the restore there have been small problems.

2 Questions:

1. Do you know anything about Joomla!/Mambo CMS system. Enough to give some advice to a poor lonely person who simply knowns the basics of html, php and css.

2. Do you know of an automated way that I can (within the Cpanel10 system) perform a full virus scan, and home and database backups.

Send answers (on the back of a postcard) to me, at fred@gapstudentsonline.com

cheers, people!

Fred

Hi Fred,

Really sorry to hear your site got hit.

Unfortunately, if you're running the latest version and there are no security advisories to be aware of from the Joomla! team, then the cause is likely to be with your hosting provider.

If Cpanel has had virus scanning enabled, it should show up as an option on the Cpanel homepage from what I remember. Otherwise, it might be the case your hosting co. don't let you carry out scans for whatever reason.

If there's anything more I can do to help, give me a shout :o)

An update for you Fred - it looks like your /includes/sef.php is sending back nonsense - the Itemids in your URLs are prefixed "88888".

This is either because your sef.php has been messed about with, or your database's "mos_menu" table has been messed about with, for example by having 8,888,800 (ish) blank entries put into it.

I think your /.htaccess might also have been broken/corrupted as there's a redirection problem showing up when you try to access chat without being logged in - it's sending you to the chat component, which is throwing up an "access denied" error. The problem there is that there's a redirect which should be going to "/index.php?mosmsg=Banana+noodle+mango" but it's actually going to "/component/option,com_missus/Item id,31/index.php?..." and since there's no actual directory there - it's all intercepted by "/index.php" - it just keeps redirecting.

Bugger :o(
