Now I'm aware that Alex and others regularly sit in
front of their funky little computers (if they need to
donate a MacBook they know I'm here!) and jot down
a few bits of code, etc.

I've now been using UPSU.net much more regularly,
- as a tool for blogging, and just generally reading it,
and I've come up with a few things that might be of use.

Firstly, this blog business. It would be quite useful if
there was a link to 'write to my blog' at the top of the
screen, instead of having to scroll down the bottom!

Secondly, after using my own Joomla! site I've learnt
and the com_'s mod_'s and bot_'s that come with it! -
One particular bot_ that i've found really good helps
with slides and tabs (within content items (AND BLOGS) ).
You can basically use it when ever you want in the same
way that the mosimage and mospagebreak work (ie
inside those funky little brackets! ({these things}) You
can download the bot_ at
http://extensions.joomla.org/component/option,com_mtree/task,viewlink/link_id,1046/Itemid,35/
I love this bot_ personally, because I find that a great
way to put things in brackets in content items is to
put it in a 'slide' - eg if I want to go waffling on about
something that, lets face it, the majority of people
won't want to read, then it's nicely controlled away,
and if they do want to read it all they have to do is
click on the slide, and out it pops.

And finally, in addition to all this 'digg this' and 'del.ic.ious' stuff
- which quite frankly I've never heard of until these funny
images came up at the bottom of content items.
Can we put a 'share to facebook' share button attached
to each content item, and photo gallery / photo! It's very easy,
just one line of code.

Here:

html .fb_share_button { display: -moz-inline-block; display:inline-block; padding:1px 20px 0 5px; height:15px; border:1px solid #d8dfea; background:url(http://www.facebook.com/images/share/facebook_share_icon.gif) no-repeat top right; } html .fb_share_button:hover { color:#fff; border-color:#295582; background:#3b5998 url(http://www.facebook.com/images/share/facebook_share_icon.gif) no-repeat top right; text-decoration:none; } Share

<!--START FACEBOOK.COM SHARE BUTTON -->

<script>function fbs_click() {u=location.href;t=document.title;window.open('http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u='+encodeURIComponent(u)+'&t='+encodeURIComponent(t),'sharer','toolbar=0,status=0,width=626,height=436');return false;}</script><style> html .fb_share_button { display: -moz-inline-block; display:inline-block; padding:1px 20px 0 5px; height:15px; border:1px solid #d8dfea; background:url(http://www.facebook.com/images/share/facebook_share_icon.gif) no-repeat top right; } html .fb_share_button:hover { color:#fff; border-color:#295582; background:#3b5998 url(http://www.facebook.com/images/share/facebook_share_icon.gif) no-repeat top right; text-decoration:none; } </style> <aAbout 97 more words in this entry

Ok, so www.gapstudentsonline.com is coming on well! - apart from that f***king virus! - excuse my french!

So now's it's all hunky dory, just slowly adding back to it, to make it EVEN better! - did an amazing thing today with the image gallery.

I used a normal '4images' image gallery into my Joomla! website. However, no bridge, and I don't know quite enough to do it myself. so I just added it in seperately as a pop-up.

However,  then I realised that there was the login kerfuffel on the 4images page, so I thought, "right lets get rid of that", so I imported my 4images directory into dreamweaver, and then went about editing every page in the template file. (no small job)! I went that little be further, by deleting and changing things that I didn't need, just to make it look that little bit better, and that little bit more mine.

Now if you're wondering 'are you allowed to do this fred' ... Yes I am because the software, and the documents with it are released under the GPL GNU license, which means I can edit and change them to my hearts content, as long as I don't try and sell it on at any time.

I then thought, "I want a random image from the gallery to show on the pages of my Joomla! site." after thinking long and hard as to how to do this, I eventually found that the easiest way was to make a custom module, and import the 'random_image' template file in as an <iframe> - no scrolls no frame border, and the thumbnail will open in a new window using javascript. pretty cool, feel free to check it out! - http://www.gapstudentsonline.com
