Its 11.59 pm, i got back home about 25 minutes ago,its a wednesday- you should be in the union because its purple wednesday i hear you say! Well yes, i was in the union, but i left early. Why? Not because i am unsocialable/have no friends, no, i knew quite a few people there. The reason i left early was because i didn't feel as if its MY union. The only reasons for this that i can give are (a) lux is too boring and (b) i don't like 90% of the music. I don't give a flying uck about sportos, they live and enjoy thier life- who am i to disapprove. However, purple wednesdays seem too much orientated as if everybody is expected to enjoy the same type of thing, both CO2 and Lux appear to play the same type of music, with the Waterhole the only 'slight' exception (the slight is miminal). I don't get it, are organisers too afraid that people are going to become polarised and one room will become more crowded than the other- because if so then so what? As long as people enjoy themselves... I won't comment too much on the boringness of the long white boardroom hall that is lux, as there has been a post about it on the union website, which i have commented on... Anyway, anyone noticed how the union is not open as much as it used to be. Not only is this bcause of what i beieve is the privatisation of the bar and catering facilities, but also because not many people go to the union anymore apart from wednesdays... Why aren't questions being asked as to why? Why does the union not cater for other music tastes? Why have beer prices gone up by 10p and BBQ chicken bagette prices gone up by around 90p from last year even though inflation hasn't increased by this much??
Why aren't people asking more questions and providing more answers?

Wow my first diary entry on this site! Hopefully there will be a few more, but i know me, and i know that i will probably lose motivation to do so in the very near future. What have you got to talk about i hear you say! Well firstly i just want to say that i am now an avid supporter of student democracy, and the right for every student to vote in order to 'better' their student's union. [just point out, when i say better, i dont mean that i dont think that its not great as it is, because to a large extent it is!!]. I really mean that i pray that students used their votes wisely- by reading the manefestos and choosing the best candidate for the job. This means no random picking of people, no supporting your friends because they are your friend, or no supporting a friend of a friend because your friend told you to. I also don't like the idea that campaigning is just about telling people to vote for a certain name. Hyprocite i hear you say!! Sadly yes i am. However, although i am a hypocrite when it comes to this, i am so for 2 reasons. Firstly, my friends i supported and campaigned for i do seriously believe are the best people for the job- i can't find it within myself to support someone who i dont believe will do the best job. Secondly, with the campaigning side of things, its not going to change- most people dont care about what the candidates stand for (sadly), and most voters act upon the idea of 'what name do i remember hearing' or 'what leaflets have i been given?'. It's a sad situation for student democracy. However, i do hope that the right people gain the positions they deserve in the elections. I also hope people have read the manefestos and voted for these people. Student Representation not Popularity Contest!
