What are the effects of bullying and harrassment?
Bullying and intimidation can have a negative effect on the health of individuals.
The following are examples of symptoms:
- Sleeplessness
- High blood pressure
- Anxiety/depression
- Loss of self-confidence
- Poor concentration
- Attendance problems
- Alcohol problems
The following are examples of signs of bullying and harrassment:
- Victims of bullying and intimidation are likely to under-perform
- They can become indecisive, appearing less competent and therefore vulnerable to discipline
- They are likely to become more and more isolated
- The resulting stress can damage personal relationships and can also lead to, for example, drug taking, increased use of alcohol and heavy smoking
- Such behaviour can also lead to students withdrawing from the University.
