Answer

Maintenance Loans and Grants are paid in three instalments – one in each term. Please be aware when planning your budget that terms do vary in length.

Term dates at the University of Portsmouth for 2010/11 are as follows:

Autumn term (20 Sept – 17 Dec):  13 weeks
Spring term (10 Jan 2011 – 8 April):  13 weeks
Summer term (2 May – 3 June):  5 weeks

Therefore, the gap between the first loan payment (if paid on time) and the second could be up to 16 weeks, likewise with gap between the second and third payment.

All students will need to budget to allow for the longer terms.  Students in Halls should be aware that Halls of Residence fees are calculated by the number of days in a term, and therefore will need to plan ahead.
