Get Involved: What can you do with the Union?

There are many ways you can get involved in life at the Union. The most high profile are the many sports clubs that the Union supports; whether you're into hockey and football, or sailing and frisbee, we can provide transport and the organisation required for you to compete with other Universities in the area. All students get Wednesday afternoons off to take part, and maintaining this high level of competition is often a route towards a professional athletic career.

Sport not your thing?

Alternatively, there are many non-sporting pastimes you can get involved in on a Wednesday. Again, we can provide you with the support you need - including budgets and equipment, advice and more - to allow society members to get involved with like-minded people. Examples include environment or computers, film or music, or political, religious or cultural interests. In fact, the only limit is your imagination! If there is something you and a group of friends are interested in, come to the Student Advice Centre and have a chat with one of the bods there who will help you get your own club or society up and running!

What else?

Beyond the world of clubs and societies, there are many ways you can take advantage of the facilities in the Union to put yourself ahead of the pack. There are courses in the common IT applications used today, as well as courses in presentation skills, communication, assertiveness, leadership etc.

Media!

The Union has a thriving and popular media department where those who have an eye on a career in the media can cut their teeth in radio and magazine publishing, as well as gaining an insight into how the internet is a great tool to support print and broadcast media by working on UPSU.net with our webteam. Don’t underestimate how valuable this real-life experience will be when you get to the stages of having interviews in a few short years!
