Category: UPSU Events
Date: 22.09.2010 - 23.09.2010
Time: 10.00 h - 16.00 h
Description:

University life kicks off with the whirlwind of Freshers' Fayre, introducing you to the many sports clubs, societies and local businesses which can make your time at Portsmouth a lot more fun.

For the sportier among you, there are over 50 clubs, from mens' and womens' football, and mens' and womens' rugby, right through to trampolining, cheerleading, badminton, and many more. Like a slower pace in life? There are over 50 societies to choose from, covering interests like film, music, sci-fi, and cultural organisations such as Chinese and Islamic. Can't find a club or society you like? You could always get some mates together and start your own - it's a great way to make lots of new friends.

Don't forget the Union's own activities, including media - Pugwash newspaper and magazine, the Pure:FM radio station, and UPSU TV. Or how about volunteering with VIP, or raising money for charity with RAG - both are a lot of fun and look great on your CV. If you're a bit more career-minded, why not try the stalls of the Royal Navy, Royal Air Force or the Army? There will also be local businesses from supermarkets to hairdressers, suit hire to banks, all offering discounts and free gifts, so bring your bag and a bit of money and dive in!

The Freshers' Fayre is in Ravelin Park (behind the Students' Union and the Library) on 22nd and 23rd September 2010. The fayre starts at 10.00am and runs until 4pm in the afternoon. It never rains - but british weather is more unpredicatable than the number 10 bus so don't worry if it's raining - everything is under the cover of our massive marquee tents and if the sun is out there'll be even more going on outside. The Waterhole bar will be open selling drinks and hot and cold food all day.

We'll see you all then for the most important festival of the year...

... FRESHERS FAYRE!

No Requests Sunday Sessions Presents: Benji Boko – Performing His “Can I Mix It” Show!

Plus support from Andy Chisham & Djdafo

Doors @ 15.00hrs – £5.00

There will be no advanced tickets on sale for this event.

BENJI BOKO (“bo-co”)

Blasting into 2010 at the O2 arena with Calvin Harris, Deadmau5 & Justice, not to mention the 17,000 people tagging along, Benji Boko took off into the new decade with a bang!

Burning 3 million candles on his birthday cake, half-man, half-monkey Benji Boko recently defrosted in Brighton, UK, where his style of music is shaped by the records he finds in some of the 2nd hand shops & flea markets. One mans rubbish is another monkeys gold!

Can I MIX it? – Boko’s latest live show creation has been tearing through the clubs and festivals this past year…. but can he mix it? YES HE CAN!!!

“Benji is the future! His ‘Can I MIX it?’ show is FRIKKIN’ MEGA!”
(DJ Yoda)

“One of the most versatile new guys out there, with a great stage presence and cracking MIX of music!”
(Rob Da Bank)

“A multiple orgasm on the dancefloor!!!”
(Girl In Audience)

From Rockness to V-Festival, Ibiza to Amsterdam, crowds have been transported from the ‘norm’ into a world of pure imagination that completely defies explanation.

Boko describes his show as “on the fly, off the cuff, completely improvised live remixing.”
Were talking Mozart vs. Missy, Dizzee vs. Depeche Mode and Snoop vs. Simpsons, just to name a few.

A carefully selected, strategically planned series of samplers, sequencers and switches form the backbone of Boko’s arsenal. A complex set-up to say the least but ready to take out any dancefloor.

Not afraid to strip down to the bare essentials, he is equally as confident behind 2 turntables. Honoring classics from the past and inventively mixing them with gems from the present has earned his DJ set the label “a futuristic masterpiece.” Bungalow 8, London’s notorious celebrity hideout and Ibiza’s luxurious Atzarro are testimony to this.

He is equally as animated in the studio producing his debut album set for release in 2010.
Having collaborated with Maxi Jazz (Faithless) and Roots Manuva, the future looks good. His first single “The Jungle V.I.P” jumped straight to No. 16 in the iTunes electronic charts and received countless radio airplay across the globe. As well as the single being used on BBC & iTV he has worked on music for numerous TV commercials such as Motorola, Kellogs and Guiness.

2010…. here he comes!
