VOTE KRISTINA NUMBER 1 for EUROPEAN STUDENTS OFFICER
During my time at the university, I have been involved in a number of activities, that I believe will enable me to make a difference to current and future European students alike. I believe my role working in the university housing department and as a course rep, for Journalism and International Relations, will provide me with the confidence to represent the concerns of a larger group of people.
I will:
Aim to create a European Students Association to help EU students integrate. I believe this will act as an umbrella organization for all of the European cultural societies and encourage increased interaction between EU students. Providing a forum for representatives of these societies to discuss concerns and plan social events.
Improve the process of securing and moving into accommodation, particularly
those students who do not secure a place in halls. My experience working in the university housing department has given me an insight into the challenges faced by both students and the university when dealing with rented accommodation. This would involve the creation of an intermediary between both parties.
Liaise with Purple Doors to provide more work opportunities in students home
countries. This would enable students to contribute to their graduate CV whilst on their summer breaks in their home countries.
Develop a voluntary group of students who can assist European students who may
have issues with expressing themselves in English. This will provide a great opportunity for those involved to improve their language skills.
Assist the university in lobbying the British Government to process work permit
applications for Bulgarian and Romanian students faster to enable them to be eligible for work experience placements earlier int he academic year.
