Hello,

I am Becky Manson, a second year student running to be your next Women’s Officer here in Portsmouth. I currently study Politics and International Relations, however I feel I can make a difference, if elected, for the women here at the university, and nationwide. I have participated over a number of years in the Race for Life, raising over £3000 for breast cancer research. I have also stood up for teen’s rights in my local community after the riots and have been involved with decisions to improve the area – these are skills I can transfer into this role as Women’s Student Officer. I will work both with and for the women at Pompey – not only in a representative role, but also via campaigning for rights and simply being there for advice if and when required by the female students.

At Portsmouth University, there are more male students than female, so to ensure our rights are not forgotten I will attend regular meetings and liaise with the NUS Women’s Committee.  Consequently, I will keep female students up to date with any changes and/or opportunities that arise, these are key tools that can ultimately be used to empower themselves, and could quite possibly help you in the long run by enhancing your educative experience and allowing for a flourishing career.

To allow women at the university to have their say directly, I will hold regular meetings and have office hours for a more private communication. These will provide opportunities for issues to be brought to my attention that I may not be aware of, and also allow for suggestions for future campaigns.

These are all things that I, if elected as Women’s Student Officer, will do for you and this university as a whole. So…
