Download Gareth Russell - Mature Students Officer - Manifesto
Hello, my name is Gareth Russell and I hope to become your new Mature Student’s officer for this year. I am a third year student studying Politics.
In my experience, mature students at Portsmouth benefit from the inclusive environment that is fostered by the staff, students and the numerous societies that exist in the Student’s Union. However sometimes I feel like there should be more provision for mature students when it comes to socialising and networking. I understand that sometimes mature students want something a little more suited to their demographic. If I am elected, I will do my best to encourage greater participation of mature students in all aspects of University life – from joining and playing an active role in Societies to representing their peers as course reps. Not only this, I will provide weekly opportunities for mature students to meet in informal surroundings to provide an opportunity for you to meet each other and network. With the following commitments I hope I can improve the mature student experience at University:
- Hole a regular social at a local pub, where mature students can socialise with other mature students from the student body
- Hold a regular coffee morning that will provide an informal opportunity for you to discuss your issues, any problems that you are facing, or just simply have a chat.
- A voice for mature students on student councils and other important representative bodies
- A dedicated and regular office hour which will provide a formal environment for you to discuss your issues and concerns, or to ask questions or information about how to resolve any problems you may be facing.
I hope you will consider me for your vote.
