Heya,

just wondered if the courserep society is still alive and if so where are the meetings? I am a courserep of my L1 BA Business Studie degree so I wondered if I could join a society?!

Well, I hope I get some answers, as the last thread is not very encouraging....

Regards,

Nils

Hi, thanks for raising this question and I will do my best to answer it. My name is Steve Topazio and i'm Chair of the Course Rep Exec committee at the students union, basically speaking I look after all the course reps and liase with the ed and rep officer.

Last year I set up the course rep society as I felt that the training offered by the union was inadequate and that more course reps needed to get to know eavh other through social events etc.

This year however, the training has improved and me and andy have developed the course rep structure through introducing the course rep council which is a chance for all course reps to attend and discuss with me and my exec committee any issues that your course has been experincing. I, in conjunction with the ed and rep officer then try to solve these problems through various means. Training this year was also improved and we were given a sizeable budget that we can spend on social events. A

As a result of this I disbanded the society as to be a member you had to pay a fee, so now in place of it we have the course rep council, through which get an understanding of what you the course reps want. Me and Andy are currently planning a big social for all course reps, possibly paintballing/theme park etc to say thank you for all the effort the course rep volunteers put in.

The next meeting of course rep council is the first tuesday of march at 3.30pm, also join the portsmouth course rep facebook group. Please contact me if you have any more questions

Regards

Hia Nils!!!

There are over 58 different societies at Portsmouth currently and if you feel that none of the current societies are yoru thing, then you can set up your own if you like. Hopefully the Course Reps meeting will be what your looking for in relation to your role, but there is so much more to uni!!!

You can check out all our current societies by going to the societies page (under the link "Get Involved" on the top tool bar). If you want to set up your own, then contact Ben Norman our Student Activities and Development Officer (or SADO for short!) on: ben.norman@port.ac.uk

Hope this helps hun -x-

Heya,

thanks for your answers!

Well, I don't know, but as I experience it being a course rep doesn't involve a great deal of work. Also what I found is that probably no one of my course knows who their course reps are and what they are there for. This makes me think, why do we need course reps. Of course that's just a rethorical question, but if no one knows about it and even the university, ie the lecturers or personal tutors don't seem to be overly bothered with the fact that no one knows about it.... strange.

What's the facebook group, Steve?

I also would like to get involved with the union a bit more.

Cheers,

Nils
