Why don't we have a summer ball as well as a graduation ball like other uni's surely this would sort out the problem of people being able to get tickets for the grad ball for people who are actually graduating, rather than people wanting to get dressed up for the end of thier year at uni.

Has this been tried before, if not, how can we try and get one organised for next year so we don't get the same problems with tickets?

Agreed, this is a no brainer really, heck even my old Sixth form had summer balls...

Tho I only hope it would be a lot better than the Christmas ball, which this year was expencive and a bit rubbish really.

We should soo have a summer ball. All my friends had fair ground rides n everything at theres and I was really jealous! I think more people would go to a summer ball cos its end of yeear and its a good goodbye before we all part for summer.

There are 2 kinds of summer ball really - so I dont know what people were thinking about.

One option is like this one at bournemouth
http://www.old-firestation.co.uk/summerball/
with music playing the major part

and then you can find the ones like Anglia Ruskin do that is a formal event or the semi-famous Cambridge onees that incorporate fairground rides etc etc.

But in any case, the cost of most of these is normally over £100 for a ticket - it is worth it? In my humble opinion yes, as the morale benefits would be huge, although i can imagine that the main question would be as to would the event be able to break even.

In my view, the University and Union is too obsessed with making things revenue neutral or revenue positive (i.e. break even or make a profit). Surely that there are some events that should be run as revenue negative (i.e. make a loss) because of the benefits to the students. I've made this point clear to certain people but I'm not sure what everyone else thinks?

Dogsbody: you might be interested to read my thoughts on this (then again maybe not; I have my flame suit on just in case... ;o).
