So you’ve been here a fair few weeks now, gone out at the Union, Gunwharf, the seafront and Guildhall all in all you probably have decided what is hot and what’s not!
As such we’re interested to know what you think of the nights and music here in the union, what would you change, drop and have more off (and when).
So instead of answers on the back of a postcard – how about some here on the forum !

How about postcard form as a post?
TO: cjhirst
Hello! Been to the Union recently (tonight) - was ok - Waterhole as good as ever, being still one of my favourite places (apart from T&E). Also with the online juke box gives all the people there a chance for their song.
Then we head upstairs. CO2 as it was last year (I think, personally as a second year I did not spend time there first year or now...) But club Lux tonight.....
TO be honest, Music wise, not good to begin with, bad middle. Now weither this was because of the music or the 'This is the new club lux' effect I do not know, but honestly, both can be improved. Only the last 10-15 minutes of the club lux songs made up for it (dance and trance)- by that time they stopped serving.
Sods Law.
Honestly, the new club Lux - Na. Not my cup of tea. Might be the new generation of first years. But not mine for sure. Time and Envy all the way for clubs.
And would you believe, I have run out of post card... Joys.
Conclusion: Personally, increase the dance and bring back the old design of LUX... Shame its too late....

yeah, Lux is supposed to be the 'club' part of the union, so why not play club music? Cheese is ok sporadically, but it gets a bit dull when it's more that than dance music (heard SClub7 "reach" tooooo many times now!) |

Im a second year at the uni and it was pretty much a guarantee i would b at the union at least once a week, this year though i cant remember the last time i went there..... think it was scott mills to b exact(night of the conga line, which i started, lol) The reason i like many others i guess havent been is because the set up in lux is so c**p now. its like am i in the que for the bar or on the dance floor and where shall i put my empty glass??? oh yeah not the safe ledges that were here last year as they have been taken away!!!!! The music is awful, fair enuf the stereo typical student loves cheese but not for a whole night!! We arent sheep! Save the cheese till every1 is drunk aka end of the night! Until then club music, funky house, trance, r'n'b stuff people actually want to hear fo a night out! Dont the big wigs think its strange why more and more people r goin to jongleurs on a friday! we hav choices and unlike last year the union isnt top of my list! One gud point well done on gettin a few celebs/dj's its better than last years dimal performance Rant over, lol |

Hey everyone,
Many thanks for your comments. Music on nights in the union is going through a bit of a change at the moment. Since you last came out here Friday eve has gone from Cheese to dance and house in LUX with CO2 playing alternative and non-mainstream stuff.
With regards to all of the rubbish which gathers on the floor more bottle bins are being added in addition to more bar staff being out on the floor collecting glasses. In reality we are still learning how to get the best out of the venue, which we have and by re-freshers a load of work will have come to fruition which should make nights a lot better.
However, as always more comments and suggestions are welcome so please keep the coming.

I think it Sux big time ive used to go to the union every wed friday and saterday the last 2 years, but this year...no...i hardly go wednesdays any more wednesday the music is always the same in co2. y he put DnB so early this year? i cnt understand that.and he cud place less DnB and more Rnb and Hip hop in lux it says its a chart, pop nite....i aint here any chart hits exept 1 or 2 !!! for friday the same and wot cn i say about saterday? it suppose to hardcore hip hop and rnb in lux but i guess thats only in my dreams
my ideal union wud be co2 only rnb hip hop and then the lux wud change like weds wud play pop, rnb,DnB Friday Pop,RnB,Cheese Saterday RnB,Hip Hop,DnB |

Charlee, don't you think it's a bit ott to play RnB in every room of the Union, on every night...?
Some of us can't stand the stuff, and the Union should be representing a wide range of popular music - it can't do that if it's playing the same stuff all the time. |

I think there should maybe be a rock night, with indie, metal, alternative, ska, just a bit more of a mixture rather than the usual crap that gets played in the union, and pretty much every other bar and club in town.
Personally I think there would be a lot of demand for this if the chance came about, but I doubt anyone will listen. |

Right,
Just came back from a Dave Pearce night - Wicked stuff, 10/10, brill music all the way. Would go again for sure.
But, (ain't it the case there is always a down side!)
Only half full (if that!)... What happened? Is it that this generation of students have gone soft, that they don't like the dance and trance style of music? Is it that the union being as it is put you off? Talk to me people!
Was amazing as I am sure many people would agree. I think that famous DJ's would be a fantastic start to get a better reputation then what the union has. Shame only a few handfuls of students were there to enjoy it tonight. Just hope the next time there are more people.
As or the union, again, plain. Nothing special. Only benefit if the change is the stage. Its better presented from last year. But otherwise its more of a concert hall then a nightclub!!
The addition of bottle bins was obvious, and the more bottle collectors were a good sign. All that is needed now is someone to clean up broken glass on the floor! I got a cut or two from drunken people kicking glass into my leg...
Enough ranting though, I enjoyed tonight.
All I want to know is that the lack of people tonight, was it the thought of the union on a Monday night that put you off or was it the DJ style of music? Or another unknown that I missed?
Cheers all, great night all that attended. Hope to see you next time!

Class night at the union last night (DAVE PEARCE)! Amazing music and a crowd that was well up for it.
Although LUX was just half full it was still a better turn out then Perfected last year which was in the middle of exams.
So what did the organisers think of last night, is there going to be more of the same? I hope so.myspace.com/euphoricsessions |

Dave Pearce was FANTASTIC!!! Absolutely loved it - ears still ringing at lunchtime today (Tuesday), but thats what you get for standing in front of the speakers all night!!!
Turn out wasn't the best, but those who did turn up were great!!

Well, I don't know what the top bods are saying as I haven't been into the Union today, but I have to say I thought the crowd were the absolute dogs danglies - playing to a room full of people going nutty is something I'll never forget - if you were one of the crowd last night, thanks again |
