Just like to say that we are £2 cheaper than Southampton Union for Wheatus, and over half the advance tickets have already sold and I've still got 4 weeks to sell the rest! Get in!!
I'm hope that a local up and coming band called "Catch me a Comet" will be supporting wheatus, this is yet to be confirmed mind. http://www.myspace.com/catchmeacomet
With regards to Dirty Sanchez at the rate they are selling I will be suprised if we have any advance tickets left by the end of the week! Dam! We should have charged more for these fellas but if you do want to go, get your ticket as we are only going to be letting in a couple of hundred people on the door! |

dirty sanchez was amazing but the pushing was ridiculous. The bouncers/security could see the people that were pushing but didnt attempt to get them out when they were in reachable distance to grab. A bit dissapointing on that front. |

Dirty Sanchez were amazing, well done the union for getting them in. However the crowd control was admittedly awful. As Jamie said the pushing was ridiculous, however i don't think it could be singled out as just one or two people. I got shouted at by the person next to me for pushing back against the flow when actually i was protecting the 2 girls in front of my from being crushed by the surge. I certainly don't agree with the bit that the people pushing were the people who were reachable by security staff as why would people 3 rows back want to push further, i know myself and my friends were in that position, and all the pushing was coming from the crowd behind. I honestly believe it was just a case of too many people being crammed into lux. I think safety was probably compromised last night in favour for numbers, if someone had fallen in that crowd last night, there was no chance they would get back up again, but thats a difficult thing to judge two/three months in advance when you are planning an event.
All in all, a good event, perhaps lacking in pre-planning on the crowd control side.
For those who didn't go - i made a little video from what i could get. And will stick some photos up soon. I'm glad i didn't take my big camera last night, i think it would be in two pieces.

In all fairness Tom, there's little you can do to stop people pushing to the front of the crowd - the back of Lux - and even CO2 - were largely empty during the show.
Mayyybeeee it would have been better to show a video feed of the on-stage events on the big screen at the back of Lux, and maybe even to have looked into raising the stage another couple of feet (although it was as high as it could go on the current stage legs the Union has, and I don't know if they can go any higher...?).
Just a couple of more logical suggestions - unfortunately, stopping a very small minority of people from acting like total prats isn't so easy ;o)

One of them said something to me about an event next Saturday when I asked what all the bikini action was all about.
When I mentioned I probably wouldn't be buying a ticket 'cos I'll be washing my hair/bathing the cat/hoovering the house, she strangely lost interest in talking to me... Y'know, I think she might just have been trying to get me to buy a ticket...

It's true that there was quite a lot of pushing last night, but as Alex says, this wasnt due to too big a number of people, just to the fact that they were all trying to get to one end of lux! I think the idea of a live video feed on to the back wall of lux is a great one, as not only would this have perhaps helped alleviate the pushing at the front, but also would have given the people at the back a view without them needing to stand on furniture, which was, security wise, a bit of a nightmare last night. Couldnt help feeling sorry for those of you who couldnt see properly from where you were at the back, but unfortunatly we're just not allowed to let you stand on furniture (think its a health and safety thing). Glad to hear everyone had a good night though - Well done the union, keep up the good work! woop woop, febfest tonight! |

i agree with points made - putting the events on projector screen, and raising the stage would help the success nites like these. im quite tall and i couldnt see all that much |

Projecting video on the screen. What a revolutionary idea, that i believe has been suggested before. Perhaps something to try at the next MAJOR event. It wouldn't be hard, or expensive to put a video camera linked to the lighting desk up in one of the Podium dancers boxes and get someone to film for what half an hour or hour that the act is on stage, i think this would really allow the hall to evenly spread out, not all squeezing to the front. My ribs are killing me today from being elbowed and shoved in a thousand different directions.Tom Worman Media Officer 2008-2009 MSN: tom_bn44@hotmail.com E-MAIL: tom.worman@upsu.net TEL: 07738586419 WEB: www.southerndesigns.co.uk |

Gotta be honnest I was TOTALLY DISSAPOINTED with Sanchez...
I got there at 9:30, and waited 2 and a half hours too see them! It was a case of the DJ going "Dirty Sanchez on Soon...honnest...."
It was appauling having to wait so long for them. The Music you played was FANTASTIC but no one could be bothered to Dance and was just standing around waiting for Sanchez to come on!
Sanchez should have been on early and then the music shoulda been on after!
Also the "Stunts" sanchez did were rubbish, not a patch on their TV stuff and alot of it was fake. I saw the flower pots falling appart before they hit his head and the blood on stage was food colouring, way too watery to be blood. And they wasted time especially with that stupid Air guitar thing! I PAID MONEY TO SEE THOSE GUYS KICK SEVEN SHADES OUT OF EACH OTHER not to watch other people on stage dancing....
So again another dissapointment at the Union.... If Wheatus are poor on Friday i am not gonna bother coming back to the union for anything other than Purple wednesday...(and even then....)

It was hard They should of been on earlyer but to be honest they were booked with normal friday night busy times in mind i.e we dont open lux till 10:30 not to be fully busy till 12 which would have been great for sanchez but it was much busyer earlyer than normal i.e we opened at 9:15 the earliest since ive been djing the uni on fridays, which we should of planed for.
The Music you played was FANTASTIC but no one could be bothered to Dance and was just standing around waiting for Sanchez to come on!
Thanks for the nice coments on music Hopefully wheatus will be good for you as we would hate to loose anybody from fridays as its just starting to get busy again. |

i went along for jokes because i knoew it would be nice and busy, and it was and i had a jokes nite.
when dirty sanchez came on there was no way i was gona be able to see them (and im pretty tall) so i didnt even bother. so im a bit disappointed paying a fiver for something i didnt see ANYTHING of. but those moaning so vehemently about crowd control- what do you expect? were you brought up wrapped in cotton wool or something?
but still, i had a good nite and it was nice to have a good night on a friday in the union again after so many last year. i cant really remember anything of the night so dont remember the music. but i do remember having it at the front (after dirty sanchez was over) for a while so the music must have been good. shame it had emptied out so much by then.
any chance of putting on a good dance nite again on a friday with a famous dj? i see the union has actually started advertising and promoting its nites at last so with the right amount it could be pulles off. we made it successful last year with a dance nite so it can be done again |

Luke you can't really blame the Union for the show that Sanchez put on. In regards to waiting around for a long time, that sanchez should have been on earlier. The place emptied afterwards and for those that came out for a dance and to see them it would have been a bit dissapointing to have a very empty lux (albeit with great music...Loved the dance at the end of the night!) to dance in. |

Have the Ministry of Sound Mash-up tour on the 9th March featuring the Cut-up boys and Steve Sutherland & DJ Blakey on the 9th June.
Unfortunatly we have Easter and Exams which limit the activity over the next couple of months. |
