I've heard of all except the last guy.
Capdown are a punky band. Very good music live and always a good atmosphere at their shows. Have recently released an album.
Captain, I haven't seen them live but have heard their music, It's nice, Will appeal to quite a few people
Cut up boys - Have heard of them through people on here saying how good they have been.

Just have to hope that Capdown aren't using the same support as they did for their album tour. well not the first band anyway!

Luke - There should be quite a big following of Capdown the gig at the wedge was packed, with quite a few people that I recognise from the uni.
Cut up boys have been praised on here a lot.
Ministry of Sound is very big, I think a lot of people will be attracted by that.
Both Captain and Capdown have headlined at the wedge. they aren't exactly small.

Luke, just about all of your comments on this forum site really make me laugh.

You say get someone decent in, if you don't know who steve sutherland is then look at this link http://www.ibiza-spotlight.com/night/reviews/2005/sutherland_i.htm If the union can get him it would be a great night. You should really try to be a little more positive, I don't think you're doing yourself any favours. If one of the best DJ's in the world isn't good enough for you then who is?

Judge Jules could be considered as one of the best DJ's in the world - certainly his scene.

As for that comment - didn't Carl Cox play one of his 6 UK dates in the union in 2003?

Last fridays with Sanchez and Wheatus were resaonably full but every one left after the act leaving a few stragllers on the floor, so Im not sure how busy a normal Friday is.

Thats good to hear bro, but at least im trying to suggest improvements to the Union, they have come on a quite a bit since Jan so im pleased. I dont think your comment was really needed....

"If one of the best DJ's in the world isn't good enough for you then who is?"

The "big DJs" i have seen have been a let down of trance and mediocrity...

Dave Piece at Time, Judge Joules and the Cut up Boys seen all of them, been dissapointed. So thats why im not exaclty excited....

Just heard some more of Capdown and they sound better than i remember. hmmmm might consider that one

nope, judge jules is not one of the best djs either- he is however the one of the most popular simply because he doesnt mind playing anywhere and thats why he played at the union. he does something like 300+ gigs a year so its no coup at all. carl cox im surprised about but we must remember that when he played at the union in was actually a night club back then not an exam hall. it may however be part of the reason the union went bankrupt a year later.

id like to see some young underground trance talent at the union such as greg downey or ben gold and while your at it book his dad graham who is one of the pioneers of uk dance music but wont cost an arm and a leg

Fair enough but I think most international dj's will do that number of gigs a year.

if you think about it, it's 6gigs a week, which is a lot I suppose, but over a 4day weekend when they get the bookings and doing more than one set a night it isn't hard.

I do kind of agree with the old union vs the new union idea. The layout of the old one seems so much better and better atmosphere because of it.

I know they said they changed the union becasue it cost too much to run but i dont see how it makes any difference. once you have built the layout, it doesnt cost anything extra. Fixed costs should not have changed that much? Ahh well maybe when we come back from the Summer they will totally redo the union? Here's hoping!

im with luke on that one. i really hope they do something with the union over the summer. as he said- its not a nightclub anymore. its an exam room, which tries doubles up as a nightclub.

Although I'm not the biggest fan of the new layout in LUX I have to work with what I've got, on the plus side it does make a better venue for live gigs but does fail slightly as a nightclub.

Saying that we are going to be making some cosmetic changes in the near future which will hopefully add a little character.

With regards to Steve Sutherland and DJ Blakey, both are now confirmed and will be playing here on the 8th June should be a massive night!! But must say I’m a little disappointed that not more of you have hear of them, Steve has been in the top 100 world best DJs for quite some time, I know Pompy isn’t the cultural centre of the world but it’s not Alabama either! Possibly you’re spending a little too much time at Tiger Tiger!

Other matters, I’m hoping to confirm the graduation ball line-up in the next few weeks, however all you graduates out there DON’T leave buying your tickets to the last minute or we will have the same situation that we had last year!!
