Hey there fellow hitchers... just thought some of you might like to know that I just booked a flight with BA on Saturday 7th April - and it was cheaper than Easy Jet!

The flight was about £40, going to Gatwick. BMI also have flights for the same price going to Heathrow, if anyone's interested.

I did check for flights a couple of weeks ago, and they were quite a bit cheaper - so if you're planning to fly, book now before the prices go up even more!

You can get a coach for £35 from the center of Amsterdam to Portsmouth direct! Without paying for the train back home which will cost a fair bit too - nearly as much as the flight!!!

And less impact on the environment too! x

Okay - you win - it's cheaper AND it does have A LOT less impact on the environment. Flying IS the worst mode of transport in terms of carbon emissions and I'm sure a whole lotta other things (sorry Elle, I'm not up on this sort of thing!) Getting a coach means sharing this (lesser) damage with other people, and of course it means probably meeting some more random people (maybe even more random than those you met whilst hitching!!!) Which can only be a good thing (one of the great things about being the student!) My excuse for flying is that I just like to sleep, and I can't see me getting a lot of that while I'm over there, so I thought I'd fly back and get some sleep on the stupidly expensive mattress I bought myself before I decided to come down to pompey!!! (not that I regret a minute of it!). And I guess Easter is a bit of a family time. mmm chocolate.

hmm,

Flying is the worst? http://www.guardian.co.uk/transport/Story/0,,2025723,00.html

This is also interesting http://cait.wri.org/figures.php?page=World-FlowChart&view=100

If there is a problem with CO2, air travel really isn't the problem.

Anyhow this isn't the time or place to go down this route, but I couldn't resist!

Bummer....price must have gone up as it's only 2 weeks away now.

If we can get 50 people who need transport home on the friday we can book a coach.

I'll get on the case tomorrow x
