I agree with the points that have made in regard to the Christmas union events. I don't mean to insult or criticise anyone but it just seems to be that in the week leading up to Christmas it only has the normal union events. I will still most probably attend both the Christmas purple Wednesday and the orange Friday as I always do and they do look fun but it doesn’t seem like there is anything there that is replacing the Christmas ball that is any different to normal. I also agree with Rach_29's point in regard to advertising, and that the union can't expect people to turn up in the hope that things might be added. I also think that the gum queen's idea is really good!! Although I would miss having the bands, such as the Chip Shop Boys, I think it is still a good idea to do the Christmas ball in the same way to this years Freshers Ball, and to pick one of the days in the Christmas week to have as a 'ball'. Therefore this would give the opportunity for everyone to dress up but the union wouldn't have to spend as much money on it. |

i like the sound of that idea as well.... although it would be nice to have the chip shop boys as long as the music is good on the night (as it was on freshers ball!) it would still give everyone the chance to dress up all posh and have the "ball" atmosphere but without any of the major costs of the regular ball. |

Thought I should add I have brought up the topic of having a Summer Ball instead with the Student Council and that seems like a good idea.
As to an earlier comment about the Chrimbo ball making less and less each year consider this:
Poor acts, Rip off tickets, pricey drinks = students rather spending cash on a few nights out.
I remember when i was at sixth form n we had great chrimbo balls, live acts, prizes, great atmosphere, chance to dress up. Tickets would sell out in two days. They were at soton guildhall i think. And beers were only £1.50 YAY.
Just a thought. |
