"Touch cup originates from the days of the mid 1980's. It was a game played with a group of friends where they would initally pick on the person of the group they didn't really like in a way to set out to ruin his life.
The game has varied rules depending on what region and decade it was played in. Traditionally, the game is now played with larger or snakebite; a combination of both larger and cider black.
Universities particpate in this game as a way to set out to ruin freshers, likened to when how the first game came about. It is played with either a 5pence piece or a copper coin, again depending on the university it is played in.
In the UK, Portsmouth University is famous for the particpation of Touch Cup in its unions Waterhole, particuarly amongst sports clubs and is played with Snakebite and a 5pence coin.
The national Touch Cup championships take place in Bristol during the month of May each year." |
