By joining the Dance club during your time at university, you are creating fantastic opportunities to enhance your university experience. Not only is it a great way to meet people and gain new friendships but also provides a chance to gain new skills or just to keep fit after all those late night curries and kebabs.
The club offer’s dance classes on a Wednesday with the
coaching provided by the clubs fantastic coach Carly-Ann focusing on street hip
hop but also with influences from a range of other styles, from Ballet to
Krumping! There is a beginner’s class and an advanced so even if you have never
danced before you will find a class that will suit you. We aim to collaborate
with other clubs from Sikh society to Breakdance to enhance our skills in all
areas of dance. Masterclasses are a highlight of the year where the club invites

The social side of dance involves dress ups which this year has ranged from bin bags to shower time, also the opportunity to go on the university sports tour (a definite must!) a week not to be forgotten but yet hard to remember?!
The club is looking forward to welcoming fun loving, up for it Guys and Girls with a passion for dance and a passion for fun!
It is at the stand that you can join up just fill in the form provided on the day and membership is £25 for the year.

Classes are £2 for an hour of coaching.
If you feel like you have the commitment to push yourself that bit further with training and dedication to dance and need a route to channel your passion then you should definitely come along to squad tryouts, which are open to all club members.
Squad tryouts are simply come along to what is more like a big dance class where you will be taught a simple routine and you just have to dance in a group. You may then be asked to come along to the second day of tryouts where the same will happen again learn a routine and just dance and enjoy the day!
If you make it through then you will have the opportunity to
perform in the union and at numerous other university events, such as for the
University boxing club.
This coming year will be Carly-Ann’s fourth year coaching the dance club. She was fundamental in forming the club. Once a University of Portsmouth student herself, she is now the Community Dance Coach. Alongside this she run’s the volunteering programme training coaches to an approved standard to go into local schools to teach dance. This programme is invaluable in the local community and to the coaches involved. Carly-Ann is responsible for organising many successful events such as the junior dance off. Carly is passionate about dance dedicating herself to over 30 hours of coaching per week alongside travelling to London to hone her own skills.
