EED Committee / Mature Students' Rep

More and more mature students are embarking on higher education in universities across the country. The Students' Union recognises that returning to study as a mature student can present its own challenges, from worries about child care, to financial concerns.

It is the role of the Mature Students' officer to promote the particular interests of mature students and to act on their behalf. Currently any student over the age of 25 can be considered a mature student. This means that there are currently thousands of mature students at Portsmouth, and it is the role of this officer to raise awareness of issues concerning mature students, to campaign for their causes, and bring their concerns to Union Council.

There is also the opportunity to represent mature students at a wider, national level by working in co-operation with the National Union of Students (UK) especially the Mature Students National Committee. The National Union of Students coordinates a mature students conference on the 29th and 30th of May.

It is the task of the mature student’s officer to ensure that mature students are duly and fairly represented; to ensure that students over the age of 25 feel that this Union is their Union.
