EED Committee / Post-Graduate Students' Rep

There are currently 3167 Post graduate students and 433 research students studying at Portsmouth University, coming from over one hundred different countries, ranging from China to Greece. This includes students studying for MAs, PhDs, and diplomas as well as students undertaking extensive research programs in fields as broad as science or history.

It is imperative that such a large body of students is represented in the Students' Union and so it is the mandate of the Postgraduate Officer to ensure that these students are given the opportunity to fully participate in all levels of union activities as well as the democratic structure of the Union. This may range from encouraging the creation of course centred postgraduate societies to raising issues of concern at Union Council, the summit of student democracy.

There is also the opportunity to represent postgraduate students as a national level by working alongside the National union of students National Postgraduate Committee, providing the opportunity to liaise with postgraduate representatives from across the country, to raise crucial concerns at a national level whilst coordinating campaigns to raise awareness and evoke change for postgraduate issues.

Ultimately it is the task of the Postgraduate Officer to ensure that postgraduate students realise that this Students’ Union is their Students' Union.
