Student Support Officer
Dear students. I am writing to you to inform you of an individual called Adam Mogford, who you may also know as 'The Bone', who is running for the position of Student Support Officer at the University Of Portsmouth. It is of the utmost importance that you heed the following information and adhere to the 'diagnosis' in order for it to benefit you, your well being and your future: Cranium - As the Cranium protects the brain, 'The Bone' will endeavour to protect you, whether it is to do with any personal issues, problems with your course, your halls, and all your fund raising and charitable ideas.
- Ossicles - It's no Greek God, and despite it being one of the smallest bones in the body, it can provide the greatest of help…if anything I have the ears to listen to whoever, whenever.
- Clavicle - If things become a bit too hectic and you need to shed some of the weight off your shoulders, this is 'The Bone' to support you!
- Vertebra - Everything that you do at University, I will be the back bone to all your needs and requirements.
- Phalanges - With all the charity events that go on at the Union, I'll try and get as many phalanges in to as many charity events and good causes as possible to enhance your University experience.
- Coccyx - Ha ha, you just said Cock!
- Tibia - like its partner the Fibula, I will stand up for you, and help run any charitable events to the best of my ability.
So what will I do for you?
With all of my experience from my time at University I feel it has set me in good stead to achieve all my goals, one of which is now to be your Student Support Officer, and be as good at it for you as possible. More awareness needs to be made of the Union's welfare services and attempt to better student's time at University with as little disruption as possible. Your course is important, that's why I want to be there for you when you need me. Your private life needn't be a burning issue either, whether it's to do with personal problems, health (sexual and other), housing or financial difficulties; every eventuality will be catered for. This could be quite possibly the best prescription all year.
So from the synopsis the 'diagnosis' is clear... Don't Be Alone, Vote For Bone.

Questions
1. What do you envisage the role of Student Support Officer to be?
To organise welfare; offer advice, arrange and support as many campaigns as possible, new and old, in order to create a united union. The role of Student Support Officer is someone who is approachable, understanding and keen to encourage and support individuals and groups.
2. Why would students vote for you as their Student Support Officer?
Throughout my time at University I have been fortunate to experience a great deal, both in good times and bad, all of which I feel have set me in good stead to maintain targets and achieve what I believe I am capable of.
3. What is the most important thing to remember when supporting students?
Try and get as good a grip as possible, as if slippery they could fall and hurt themselves.
4. What do you think are the most important issues that you would have to fight for as Student Support Officer?
I would look to continue raising awareness of all manner of campaigns, encouraging more support of RAG and for differing individual and group campaigns. No matter how big or small, everyone’s issues deserve equal time and attention to their cause.
5. As Student Support Officer it’s your responsibility to run Union campaigns. What would be your top three campaigns and why?
No one campaign can be seen as more important than another, however if I had to name three I would firstly say RAG. I would also look to increasing further awareness of the Union’s Diversity Week. As well as this I would look to create further campaigns to support worthy local groups, for example the Salvation Army. Many students are unaware of the numerous facilities available to them, I want to spread the word so more can benefit.
6. Part of your role is to organise Union Council. How do you intend to improve and enhance this so that more students attend?
I would look to increase Union Council’s awareness with posters and printing articles advertising it in Pugwash and Purple Wednesday. Many items that are discussed at Union Council never make it back to the majority of the students until measures have been put in place, I would look to encourage more student participation fervently.
7. What would be your main agenda item at the Unions AGM?
I would hope to be able to provide ample evidence of an increase in awareness of RAG, displaying as many charity events and fund raising opportunities as possible over the previous year.
8. A major part of your portfolio us Raising and Giving (RAG). What ideas do you have for building upon the RAG foundations?
I would look to increase on the participation of the RAG pub crawls, as being a leader on three previous occasions they are always an event that people look forward to. I would als like to create more awareness of fund raising weeks and themed nights at the Union.
9. As a Sabbatical Officer, networking is essential and important; what is your best networking line?
I’m no gynaecologist but I’ll have a look!
