Important Election dates, 2007
The election process begins on Monday 29th January when nominations open. Candidates should pay close attention to the following dates:
Mon 29th Jan 2007: Nominations Open
Candidates can obtain all the briefing material (in the candidate pack) which is required to run in an election. Nominations can be taken from this point on, up until the close of nominations.
Mon 19th Feb 2007, 6.00pm: Close of Nominations
The final day that prospective candidates can hand in their nomination forms, publicity material, manifestos and questions.
Thu 22nd Feb 2007, 3.00pm: Candidates' meeting
A mandatory meeting to brief the candidates of the scope of responsibilities that come with the role, with a speech by the Vice Chancellor of the University.
Mon 5th Mar 2007: Limited distribution of Publicity
UPSU will create and distribute publicity featuring all candidates to selected sites around campus.
Mon 5th Mar 2007 - Fri 9th Mar 2007: Candidates' Question Time and Hustings - updated!
An opportunity for the candidates to present their manifestos to students, and to be questioned on specific points. The week will be divided as follows, with all events commencing at 7pm in the Waterhole:
- Media & Publications: Mon 5th March
- Student Support: Tue 6th March
- Sports Officer: Wed 7th March
- Activities and Development: Thu 8th March
- Education and Representation: Thu 8th March
- President: Fri 9th March
Mon 12th Mar 2007 - Fri 16th Mar 2007: Campaign Week
All publicity will be available for collection from the copy shop on Monday morning. Candidates can use this week immediately prior to, and during, the elections to pass their message onto the voting public.
Wed 14th Mar 2007 – Fri 16th Mar 2007, 1.00pm: Voting
Voting takes place at several sites around the University, including the Students' Union (see the notice of elections for polling station locations). Voting ceases at 1pm Friday.
16th Mar 2007: Counting
Counting commences after voting in accordance with the rules outlined in Schedule 5 of the Constitution ("The Rules for the Conduct of Elections"). Announcement of winners takes place as soon as a satisfactory result is obtained.
