Key dates for your diary. Please also see the "How to run" pages for a step-by-step guide to running for election.

 

Mon 14th Jan: Notification of Elections

2.1: The official notice that the elections are to take place. Usually one week prior to any formal activity.

 

Mon 28th Jan: Nominations Open

2.2: Candidates can obtain all the briefing material (in the candidates' pack) required to run in an election. Nominations can be taken from this point on, up until the close of nominations.

 

Mon 11th Feb, 6pm: Question & Answer Session

2.3: An informal Q&A session has been set up to allow prospective candidates the chance to ask existing Sabbatical Officers what the job is really like, and what might be realistic promises to include in manifestos. Come along to Function Suite 1 in the Union at 6pm.

 

Mon 18th Feb, 6pm: Close of Nominations

2.4: The final day prospective candidates can hand in their nomination forms, publicity material, manifestos and questions. 6pm is the cut off – no late submissions.

 

Tue 19th – Thu 21st Feb: Video recording sessions

2.5: Candidates are invited to record a one-minute presentation outlining their main campaign for showing at Question Time and for use on the web. Sessions can be booked following close of nominations with Joanna Dewen, Finance Office. You can find out how to get in touch here.

 

Thu 21st Feb, 2.30pm: Candidates meeting

2.6: A compulsory meeting to brief the candidates of the responsibilities that come with the role. With an address from the Vice Chancellor of the University. Come along to Function Suite 2 in the Union at 2.30pm.

 

Mon 3rd Mar to Sun 9th Mar: Question time week

2.7: An opportunity for the candidates to present their manifestos to students, and be questioned on specific points.

 

Mon 3rd Mar: Publicity to be distributed

2.9: All posters etc. to be erected in nominated positions by the beginning of the week. Publicity can be collected from the Copy Shop from 9.30 a.m.

Candidates may distribute their publicity across campus during this week, but may not actively campaign until the week commencing the 10th March. 

 

Mon 10th Mar 9am to Fri 14th Mar 1pm: Campaign Week

2.8: Candidates use this time immediately prior to, and during, the elections to pass their message onto the voting public.

 

Wed 12th Mar 9am to Fri 14th Mar 1pm: Voting

2.10: Voting takes place at several sites around the University, including the Students’ Union. Voting ceases at 1pm Friday. Voting locations, times and information can be found here.

 

Fri 14th Mar, afternoon: Counting

2.11: Counting commences after voting in accordance with the rules outlined in Schedule 5 of the Constitution (The Rules for the Conduct of Elections).

 

Fri 14th Mar, evening: Announcement of winners

Announcement of winners takes place as soon as a satisfactory result is obtained, and is typically held on the night of the count.
