Union Council / How does Union Council work?
Union Council is made up of committee members and the Union's Sabbatical Exec team. It hears reports by the council's members, and members and students like can ask questions on these reports.
Similarly, Union Council also receives motions submitted by students on any area of the Union's business, with past examples including changing the Union's advertising policies, requiring recognition of the International Women's Day, and even challenging the Sabbatical Officers' working practises - if it's a part of your Union, then Union Council has the power to tackle anything you think is an issue which needs resolving.
Motions which the Union Council's members are in favour of - determined by a majority vote - are then passed on to a general meeting of the Students' Union, which can either be the Union's annual general meeting (or "AGM"), or an extraordinary general meeting (or "EGM").
For more information on what happens next with motions passed to a general meeting, see the AGM and EGM pages.
