About Pugwash magazine
Pugwash, or Portsmouth University Guild of Writers and Student Hacks to give it its full title, is quite possibly the University's largest collection of talented writers and designers, with students of all levels of experience from total newbie (including myself!) to seasoned hack getting involved in writing, designing, laying-up, and proof-reading publications, and then helping to hand them out on campus once they come back from the printer's.
New things - Pugwash News newspaper!
For 2007, the Pugwash name has also been given to a new newspaper - Pugwash News - as well as the long-standing Pugwash magazine, so there are now even more opportunities for students to create work that will be seen by thousands of students right across the campus, as well as online at www.upsu.net/news across the world.
Pugwash News and Purple Wednesdays newspaper is a fortnightly
tabloid-sized, student-targeted newspaper with a remit to cover student
news and sports (in the Purple Wednesdays section in the back pages),
as well as features, reviews, and more.
Pugwash magazine
Pugwash magazine is a glossy, 40-something page student lifestyle publication, printed five times a year. It has won some pretty impressive awards in the past, and I'm hoping that this year, with all the people involved and all the hard work that's been done so far by just a few students, we're in with a really good chance of winning even more awards! The magazine usually includes features, music and event reviews, comment and some randoms, and is a great opportunity for the more artistic designers to really show off their creative skills.
The Pugwash team is made up of two editorial teams looking after the creation and development of content into printed publications, and four teams of contributors.
Getting it online
(A bit of a blatant advert...!) Pugwash also needs a few dedicated souls to help put all their news articles online. You don't need to know HTML or CSS to do the majority of the articles - just a willingness to learn and plenty of patience!
