Societies / Executive / Welcome!

Who's this then?

This committee is made up of representatives from different societies, who meet regularly to discuss and solve any society problems or issues.

They are elected at Presidents Day at the start of the year and meet with the Student Activities and Development Officer throughout the year.

Who are we?

What do we do?

The Society Exec is a group working to improve many areas including:

  • Society profile and awareness within the Students’ Union and student body
  • Society usage of the Unions’ publications and website
  • Communication between Societies and The Union
  • The organisation of  society events including Refreshers Fayre
  • Societies carnival
  • And lots more!

Each officer is responsible for a number of societies and is their first point of contact for any problems or issues they may have. This has dramatically improved the communication between societies and the Union over the past couple of years, resulting in more active and supported societies. If you want to know which officer is responsible for your society then please look in the ‘who we are’ section.

Our achievements

The creation of the Society Executive Committee three years ago has been extremely successful. Events such as Societies Carnival have been created and Re-Freshers fayre has been greatly improved.

The constant work of the executive committee will in time lead to societies being the recognised entity that they deserve to be within the University of Portsmouth Students’ Union.

We have over 50 societies here in Portsmouth and over 3,000 students involved in them - its about time they get recognised!
