NUS Governance Review defeated at last stage

Breaking news: the controversial NUS governance review has reportedly been defeated by a narrow margin at the NUS Annual Conference in Blackpool.
The NUS Governance Review, hailed by senior NUS figures as a necessary process of reform for the organisation, was defeated on day two of the NUS conference, falling short of the 717 vote requirement to achieve legitimacy by only 25 votes.
The review has been widely criticised by students and students' unions alike, with key changes - including the proposed abolition of the NUS Conference - described as attacks on the organisation's democratic nature.
In November 2007, the University of Portsmouth Students' Union's Union Council - the Union's key democratic student forum - voted in favour of ensuring the Union's NUS conference delegates voted against the NUS Governance Review.
