Even after a hard start to the season the Seconds went into their game against Brighton with high spirits.
Both teams were giving it their all and by the end of the first quarter it was 13 - 12 to Brighton. Gaby Johnson (GS) and Sam Barnes (GA) were on target with their shooting throughout the game. After a controversial decision from the umpires, the half-time score was 21 - 20 to Brighton.
The third quarter showed true Portsmouth character, with the whole team putting in one hundred percent. Cariona McGrory had a fantastic game at Centre, gaining many interceptions. Felicity Dickson (WA) put the pressure on by screaming down the court. Brighton started to crack. Harriet Bone (GD) and Emma Wicks (GK) had a smashing game in defence. Jo Apperly (WD) made amazing runs and interceptions down the wings. The whole team played so strongly in the last quarter fighting for the win.
The final, well earned score was 28 - 26 to Portsmouth, sending Brighton back home gutted, with the Portsmouth girls celebrating their win by dressing up as pirates and heading to the Union. One of the team members, mentioning no names, got a little over excited and was home by half ten!
