Okay, well that was a bit of a lie - but it's nice to be able to try and look after our own little bit of it a little bit better.
I'm on the hunt for some volunteers to get involved in the Unions VIP (Volunteering In Portsmouth) Environmental projects this year.
Some of the things we want to get started on are...
Working to help regenerate land next to a school in Leigh Park... some students at the University have been undertaking this for some time now, and VIP have been invited to join them in helping to create a sort of nature reserve for wildlife to flourish and so the kids have nice things to look at, rather than get bored and throw stones.
Hilsea Lines... Conservation and Restoration work. Click here for more information on Hilsea Lines
We have been in contact with Hampshire Wildlife Trust who I'm sure would love to come along and tell us what we can do to get involved in helping them out, so if you're interested - Get in Touch!!
In addition to these three causes, we have also launched Gorilla Volunteering this year, where you can get involved with making our little university city a nicer place to live. This might be anything from a bit of litter picking when you've got some spare time, to getting a bit arty and painting over some graffiti. (Gorilla outfit optional).
If you want to get involved (which you should - volunteer projects don't really work very well without volunteers! - so get your mates involved too), then get in contact with me or Ben Norman (who you can find in the Sabb office). When I've built up a reasonable sized team of you lot, I'll arrange a meeting and we can get going!! Woohoo
