Tragic loss of popular student

It is with the deepest regret that the Students' Union have learnt of the tragic loss of Ruth Brereton; a popular girl who worked in the Union and was involved in a variety of volunteering and fund raising projects including the recent RAG skydive.

Rev Peter Jones, Lead University Chaplain, said: "Ruth Brereton was a popular and well known student involved in a wide range of activities on campus, from being a talented member of the university's Music Society and active member of the student union to taking part in student radio as a presenter and producer and being a member of The Catholic Society. The University community was very sorry to hear of Ruth's death and we send our sincere condolences to her family."

Amongst the various facebook tributes from friends, family and colleagues University of Portsmouth Vice-Chancellor, John Craven wrote: "I am very sorry to hear this news, as Vice-Chancellor of the University and as a fellow member of the Music Society. The University Chaplaincy would like to offer to anyone who would like support, the opportunity to either contact them on 02392 843030 or chaplains@port.ac.uk or to visit them in The Nuffield Centre opposite to The Students' Union. Chaplains can also advise on arranging any form of memorial that friends and family feel is appropriate.
