On 23rd February the Union played host to a massive night of society-based fun and frolics. A dedicated team of representatives from many different societies had been planning this event since November

The passion that these individuals had provided an amazing atmosphere on the night itself.

Big Band kicked off the evenings’ events in Lux, where the female soloists blew away the audience’s minds with their beautiful voices, followed by the Takeover Quiz.

Its enigmatic hosts did a sterling job of keeping the contestants under control!

Next, we had various performances, but the best one was undoubtedly the dance collaboration project by Breakdancing, Street Salsa and Latino Dance Cocktail.

A feisty feast of dance filled with spice and attitude erupted in Lux to rapturous applause and an open-mouthed audience.

Three amazing bands, including our very own School of Rock, then entertained the crowds before DJ Viking Tom from the M.I.G society rounded off the evening with a set featuring the best in cheesy goodness.

CO2 was transformed into a den of DJing delights. A large camouflage net was sprinkled with glowsticks and erected over the seating area where people could listen to the amazing DJs from Nu-Music, Drum and Bass Society, Unsigned Talent, Pure FM and Breakdancing.

Down in Via Lattea, a more chilled out atmosphere could be found with acoustic music from various individuals, plus a couple of rappers from the Christian Union.

The debate sessions also cranked up the heat in Function Room 1, with several political societies battling it out over a variety of topics.

All in all it was an awesome night. Thanks to everyone who made it possible, especially Ben Norman and Steve Baker for putting up with all of the Takeover team – now just bring on the Carnival!
