Language & culture in Europe: lecture, 23rd May

The Hellenic and Cypriot society will be holding a lecture on Friday May 23rd at Southsea Community Centre with guest speaker Dr Anna Syngellakis, a lecturer on European Affairs at the University.

The outline of the talk, which begins at 7.30pm, will be as follows:

* Language and identity
* Languages as a fundamental human right
* The need to protect and promote languages in Europe
* How are languages supported?
* 2008 the European year of intercultural dialogue
* Multilingualism: a key EU objective
* The Greek language in Europe: challenges and prospects

Everybody is welcome in this talk, admission is free and light refreshments will be available. The event begins at 7.30pm.
