I think communication within the union needs to improve between student union members and the staff that run the club and bars. For the last 2 months now the University of Portsmouth Gaming Society has been trying to arrange a date to host a LAN party event, which has the potential to bring in 100 gamers for 36 hours, and as a University Society event surely this should be welcomed.

As a new event not held before it has had it's delays, but it has come to the point where the date will have to be pushed back to the next academic year.

An event of this type, run by students to promote a club/society, is the kind of thing the union should grab up and use to promote themselves to other clubs and start looking to other clubs to run events, and increase the unions popularity in the student population.

This event is intended to be open to non-students and events at other unions (loughborough for one) are very successful. Bristol Uni are also starting a similar event and societies are attending LANs at other unions around the country.

For the third year running, Portsmouth People & Planet (fantastic group i hear) will be hosting the One World Fashion Show!!

It will be a showcase for the best in fair-trade, ethical and cultural clothing, mixed with various entertainment and will finish with an aftershow party with several guest DJ's being invited.

It's on 1st March 2008, in Lux (Student Union), doors open at 7.30pm and entry is FREE!!!
