"Society Executive Elections" by Ben_Norman

In a change to the schedule I will be holding the next Society Executive elections BEFORE next year. So, the election will not be held at Presidents Day at the start of next year, but at a date to be decided in May. (Most likely 16th May). This is an oppotunity for all outgoing and incoming society commitees to be involved in the election and to stand. It will ensure new students know who are exec are before the year starts and it ensures some stabillity for the year ahead when I will not be here. So.. currently there are 6 positions...

Chair Person
Hobbies Rep
Activites Rep
Political Rep
Cultural Rep
Religious Rep

The Exec are the main contact point between the Union and socieites, importantly they HOLD THE SABB OFFICER TO ACCOUNT making sure they do their job .. important for the year ahead. They organise inter-society events such as the carnival, they make sure that societes are represented in the highest levels of the Unions' democracy and have regular contributions to Union and Wider Media. So its a key job, and we need 6 good people to do it. To lead, to support, to represent socieites and to ensure that they grow and maintain their integral position within UPSU.

Please E-mail me, if you are interested or one of your society members is interested and I'll will send out some more info.

Many thanks,

Ben Norman

Want to skydive for FREE? And raise money for charity?

The University of Portsmouth Skydive Club is teaming up with RAG (Raising and Giving) to organise a charity skydiving event on the 26th April to mark the start of RAG week, and if you raise enough money you can skydive for FREE!

We're offering the option of doing either a tandem skydive or a weekend-long static line (solo) course; please visit http://www.skydiveport.co.uk/rag for more details about each type of jump.

The MINIMUM amount you need to raise in sponsorship to skydive for free is £250, which includes transport to the dropzone (near Salisbury).

The money raised from the event will be going to this year's RAG charities; The Rowans Hospice, Macmillan Cancer Support and The National Association for Colitis and Crohn's Disease (NACC).

We're holding a meeting in Function Room 1 at the Union on Tuesday 11th March at 6:30pm, where we will explain more about the charities and the skydive itself, and you'll have to opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

To sign up to the RAG charity skydive event please e-mail rag@skydiveport.co.uk stating if you would like to do a tandem skydive or a static line course, and also if you require transport.

Please spread the word about this event and get all your friends involved!

www.skydiveport.co.uk/rag

http://www.upsu.net/components/com_simpleboard/uploaded/images/Tandem_small.JPG

Message edited by: owensi at: 21/02/2008 11:58

"Fancy doing an abseil?" by thegumqueen

One of our RAG charities this year is The Rowans Hospice, a local charity, which provides hospice care and support to patients with life limiting illness.

On Saturday 19th April you can help raise some money for them by taking part in a sponsored abseil, from the Civic Offices in Guildhall Square.

Last year saw members of the LGBT Society and the Ethics, Equality and Diversity committee doing just this on a very windy day in December, and raising awareness and money for World Aids Day. So if you haven't done it before, just ask one of them - I'm pretty sure most would say that it's an opportunity not to be missed!!!

It costs just £10 to have a go - so why not get yourselves signed up and get all your friends and family to sponsor you!!

If it all seems a bit daunting, how about getting a team together, of your sports club/society/housemates!! And of course, do it in fancy dress!!!

If you want to get signed up - email me and I'll get a registration form to you!

sarah.blatchford@gmail.com
