Problem is aswell is I kind of think that Valve would probably only come down if it was a proper promoter. Leeds etc have been fortunate enough to get it down to their union but they have a much bigger reputation for putting on dnb events that work, hense the appeal for dj's to play there and Valve to take the system down.

@ Luke - definately check Sub Focus out. He's been closely linked to Pendulum because they've both been around the same lenght of time. Pendulum's sound is totally unique, and that's partly contributed to their success. But I prefer Sub Focus because he's one guy and the mixdowns of his tracks are the best in the business - probably better than the top sound engineers.

A live element could be good at the union, and London Elektricity could also be someone I would get the ents crew to look at. True but surely a song like "Hold Your colour" is equally experiemental through mixing guitars in to the fray? Quite frankly i have heard no DnB that sounds anything like Pendy in terms of style, Will check out this Sub Focus tho.

The point about Pendulum, is that they are a High impact name with a proven track record that will consider playing venues other than main lines. They have a series of Hit tunes that the MAJORITY of people recognise and enjoy and besides that ARE INCREDABLE LIVE - both to listen tobut to Watch, something many DJs can only dream of.

True that many Djs hit the Pier for Breakneck but thats like saying: "Because Reading's on that Download is not worth considering.".

I don't think that comment makes total sense. Just because a particular style of music is "underground" it isn't like that because hardly anyone likes it.

It's mainly down to the fact that scenes like DNB have no corportate sponsorships, and therefore is a selfsustained industry - people going out and buying tunes means the producers have enough money to live on and make more tunes.

Also, the degree to which people consider "Vault" Pendulum's best tune is only a matter of opinon - Vault is in a different league to all those other tunes you just mentioned, mainly because it was totally experimental and believe it or not the first tune they ever made - and it worked! All comes down to opinon anyways.

I would personally say that when Vault came out and I heard it on the radio I was loving it - but Sub Focus has been closely compared to Pendulum over the years and IMO is very underated. Having said that - the person who commented on Fabric only charging £12 for Live , that's down to the fact that they are a well known place who reguarly put on nights.

Furthermore, booking someone to play isn't as simple as it sounds. The agents will want to know all sorts of answers to questions such as what is the capitcity of the venue and if they are the main headliner.

Getting one top act into a venue is going to mean that it is because of that one act that the venue is probably going to be packed, hence the dj's can charge more and get away with it, where as Fabric putting on 30 top name people is going to dilute their justification for a higher fee, not to mention that they have been going for so long.

The fact that Breakneck's down here also makes it more difficult as dj's will probably prefer to play with an established promoter as opposed to the union. If you actually check their myspace under events,

"Please note - due to recording commitments for the new album, all events are DJ performances unless otherwise stated"

It clarifys this, it will still be an awesome event on the pier. I can assure you i wouldn't personally miss it, as it's the closest i can get, to the real stuff for now.

If the Union could honestly get them in for a live instrumental event, where they play more than 30 minutes. It would be mental, i'm a huge fan, and Pendulum are a breathe of fresh air to the club scene!

Fair enough, people slate them for not being decent D'n'B artists. But it's nice to see they actually play live with these instruments. Instead of using pre-recorded beats, etc. I feel the actual presence of the instruments, adds real atmosphere to the gigs. But obviously, it's opinionated.

That's not to say that, if DnB becomes "pop" music, it's a good thing - possibly the opposite imvho, but it does mean that it becomes more widely recognised in much the same way that dance acts like Fedde le Grande have helped to make chunky and electro house more attractive to pop music lovers.

... But of course that would push their asking prices up by a fair amount too... D'oh!

Fabric in London is only charging £12 (and thats london prices mind) entry so they cant be that costly to get in.

This would be a good way to counter the opening of Time etc.... Have a think about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
