What is this tool?
The newsletter sign up tool lets you quickly subscribe or unsubscribe from a mailing list, simply by clicking the button displayed in the sign up box:

There are a number of mailing lists on UPSU.net; if there is a mailing list for the section of the site you are visiting, you will usually see one of these boxes explaining what the list is and, for mailing lists with regular updates, how often you will be sent e-mails from the list.
How do I use it?
To use the newsletter tool to sign up (subscribe) to or unsubscribe from a mailing list, simply click the orange "SUBSCRIBE" or "UNSUBSCRIBE" button as appropriate when you see it displayed on a page you are viewing.
Note: you must sign in to UPSU.net before you can use this tool. Once you have signed in, navigate back to the page with the newsletter box. You may need to refresh your browser (how?) before the "subscribe" or "unsubscribe" button is displayed.
Other ways to stay up to date
You can also change your e-mail subscriptions all in one go by going to your profile page and clicking the "update your profile information" link at the top-right of the page.
Most browsers have a button in the tool bar (which is usually at the top of the browser window) called "refresh" - clicking on this button will refresh (re-load) the web page you are viewing.
Many browsers will also refresh the page if you press the F5 key on your keyboard.
Privacy and unsolicited mail
Portsmouth Students' Union (UPSU) runs UPSU.net and manages its own mailing lists. We don't trust anyone else with your e-mail address or any other personal information.
In addition, we will only ever send you e-mails about the things you want us to - we never send out unsolicited ("spam") mails. Most of our mailing lists are "opt-in" - you voluntarily subscribe to the list, and can unsubscribe at any time, for example the JobShop mailing list.
Opt-in and opt-out lists
Some of our lists are "opt-out" - you will be subscribed to the list automatically when you sign up to the site but can choose to unsubscribe, either by ticking an option during the sign-up process, or by updating your user profile afterwards. An example of this type of list is the Social:Life mailing list, which provides weekly updates of events coming up at the Union.
All-member lists
We also have one compulsory list; this is used to send urgent and very important messages, including news updates and other information essential to all our active members.
In the 2006-2007 academic year, e-mails from this list have been fixed at a maximum of one every two weeks. Please take the time to read the information we send from this list as it is one of the first and best ways you can stay up to date with your Students' Union.
