STAND - Student Training And New Development
Over quarter of a million students graduate across the country every year; what makes you STAND out?
The Students' Union is launching its STAND project - Student Training And New Development - allowing you to gain tangible and transferable skills making you stand out from the crowd.
Workshops will run every week from the start of term, but you don’t have to come to every workshop - simply cherry-pick the course that’s right for you.
This semester we will be running the following courses:
MEDIA TRAINING
For all those who would like to gain an insight into this competitive field from our skilled media team, you can use these skills to get involved in our various media outlets, including the award winning Pugwash magazine or our fortnightly Pugwash News & Purple Wednesdays newspaper.
CAMPAIGN COORDINATION
If you'd like to become a better campaigner, we're running workshops on beating apathy among your target audience, campaign communication, lobbying local officials, "working the room", creating press releases, and campaigning for change.
SOCIETY MANAGEMENT
This course aims to train students up into efficient and effective representatives. Whilst the course is initially aimed at society and club members or those students sitting on committees, the skills are easily transferable into fields such as management.
We will also be running workshops on effective campaigning; this will offer you the knowledge you need to coordinate, publicise and plan any campaign from setting up a charity event to coordinating projects or changing the world.
This course will run throughout the autumn semester, but by the spring semester you will have the opportunity to become a student trainer, opening up an entirely new skills base.
TRAIN THE TRAINER
Our "train the trainer" workshops will give you the skills you need to pass on your experience and knowledge in an effective way, giving you the confidence and tools to take a group of strangers through the training you yourself have learnt.
Workshops will cover team building and learning styles, using games to reinforce your training, handling difficult trainers and dealing with fears, and consolidation sessions allowing you to practice what you've learnt.
WHY DO IT?
You pay the fees; it's time you got something more then just a degree. So sign up, and stand out - it’s your Union; use it!
