About the UPSU JobShop
What is the JobShop?
The Job Shop is the student employment service provided for University of Portsmouth students. The service aims to link students with employers by advertising their employment vacancies. The role of the Job Shop is to enable students to gain information about part-time and vacation employment opportunities. The University of Portsmouth Students' Union was one of the first Students' Unions in the country to establish an on-site Job Shop.
Who do we advertise?
The majority of the job vacancies we advertise are with employers in Portsmouth and the local area, but JobShop also handles all Students' Union Vacancies. The JobShop also has advice and information on job hunting, advice on your employment rights, tax, National Insurance and more.
Our services
- We offer employers direct contact with students who are looking for work, while they are studying at University.
- We offer students a service by assisting them in securing part-time, casual and seasonal employment.
- We offer a range of employment opportunities which will assist students financially as well as allowing them to gain valuable experience.
- We recruit and employ over 200 students per year to work at the Students' Union.
Our history
Portsmouth Students' Union was one of the first Students' Union Job Shops to be set up in the UK. Many employers regularly return to the Job Shop to advertise their part-time, term-time and full time-time vacation employment.
Vacancies
Vacancies are advertised on the Job Shop noticeboards located at the Job Shop in the Union.
The type of jobs on offer varies widely, but the majority are part time jobs such as sales, advertising, bar waiting, call centre, telesales, youth work, ID parades and courier drivers. Vacation work is also available within Portsmouth, the Southern UK, and even overseas.
