Community Rep Scheme
What is a Community Rep?
Community Reps are here to represent you in Portsmouth! The University of Portsmouth is a city campus and we have students living in different areas; from Southsea and Fratton to Eastney or North End. We should all get involved in, look after and feel proud of living in Portsmouth.
Community Reps live in private housing in Portsmouth, and speak on your behalf about the issues that are affecting you in the city. You should be able to find your Community Reps easily – they will be getting in touch with students and local residents, as well as attending local residents' group and council meetings to make your views heard! Also a big part of what your Reps will be doing is providing support for all students living in private accommodation. Many of you won't have lived away from home before and your Reps are here to help if you have any problems settling, or just want a bit of a chat!
Your Community Reps will also be involved in running awareness campaigns around the city, whether it's on staying safe on nights out, promoting green living and recycling or letting you know what's going on at the Union!
You don't have to wait for our Community Reps to get in touch or come and find you though, feel free to contact them at any time during the year if you have a problem, or just want a bit of advice! They might not have an answer for everything but will always be able to point you in the right direction!
If you think you could be one of our Community Reps then have a read through this page and get in touch with Stephen Roberts, your Welfare and Community Sabbatical Officer.
Want to be a Community Rep?
If you're interested in getting more involved in the city you're living in, and feel like you could really help other students who are living in private accommodation then being a Community Rep could be just for you.
Our Community Rep positions are voluntary, but give you a great experience and really help to make you more employable. Volunteering is one of the best things you can do whilst at University – nowadays it's not easy to get a job once you've graduated, and a fantastic voluntary position can really set you apart from your competition. As a Community Rep you will get experience working with different stakeholders, running events and providing support to our students.
It's not all work though – there's no better way to get out and meet new people, whether it's your fellow students, or local residents who have been living in Portsmouth their whole lives. There will be the chance to organise socials for students living in your area if you're interested and you will be supported by the Union in everything you are doing.
