UPSU in the Community

Community Strategy

As a part of the Union's Strategic Plan for 2011-15 we have a Community Theme. This focuses on the Union's various communities and on how the Union will ensure that it engages with those groups. In addition, this theme sets targets for developing engagement for the benfit of the Union, its members and the various communities detailed within.

To view this strategy you can come in and pick up a copy from the Students' Union. A digital copy will be available online soon!

Intergenerational Project

We currently run intergenerational projects in three council care homes in Portsmouth. The projects are regular volunteering opportunities where you can volunteer a couple of hours a week. The aim of the projects is to break down barriers between generations and to learn from each other. Activities include gardening, baking and painting. At two of the care homes that we work with we offer a different range of activities for those who are experiencing dementia. This includes using reminiscence tools and creating scrap books of family histories. Find out more here

VIP

Volunteering in Portsmouth (VIP) is the biggest volunteering activity at UPSU. Every Portsmouth student is automatically a member of VIP when they start at the University. VIP is run by an elected committee of students who organise one-off events. Past events have included a beach clean, a spring tea dance at a care home, a charity cycle on the Isle of Wight and the end of year Community Summer Fete. Find out more here
