How the website will change thanks to your feedback
Jun 11th
Thankyou to everyone who has taken the time to fill out the 2010 Annual Survey as you will see it’s important to complete these surveys as it shapes what we’re doing. I’ve personally gone through every response on this years survey so far and here’s what I’ll be doing to resolve and develop UPSU.net for you. Obviously we can only change the negatives so that’s what’s shown below – but it’s always good to know what we’re doing right too!
Sport video footage – on DSLRs
Mar 8th
I am considering buying either a canon 5D Mk ii or 7D DSLR.
What both of these cameras have in common is their ability to shoot HD video, and the results film makers are getting is changing the face of the industry.
As this video shows, the compactness of the platform allows a degree of intimacy hard to achieve with regular video cameras. The choice of lenses allow for creative expression and the 60FPS option (7d only) enables stunning slow motion. The ‘making of‘ video shows how simple monopods allow dramatic sweeps and close-ups, which unusually is something our budgets can accommodate.
With the AU Dinner video coming – and my purchase imminent – I think there is some scope to include some pretty dramatic sequences.
Cool Video Ideas

Hey guys check out the intro to O’Neil TV it’s absolutely amazing! I really love the slow panning on stills. I don’t know how it works but ever since I’ve seen it, it’s always stood out to me as one of the best intros to s sports video ever!
BBC Winter Olympic Ad/Opening Animation

This animation is absolutely awe inspiring, if we had some animators on the team this is the kind of teaser that’d getting me coming along to an event or at the very least sitting up and paying attention!

Just a couple of Gradball Poster Ideas while I’m bored and can’t find anything better to do!

Gallery of Poverty
Jan 2nd
I noticed Gamel Oki, UPSU Multimedia Assistant, posted this on someone’s facebook page as a link but it inspired me to think of a way that the Union could encourage thoughts on Student Funding.

Gallery of Poverty
The Gallery of Poverty is an idea of emotional photography based around fighting fees, so replicating this shot, maybe someone begging with a sign out saying need money for fees, even a hobo style shot with a student in a sleeping bag saying cheap room needed can’t afford rent. Put these up in a Gallery etc.
Love your Union Project

I’ve been hunting for Viral Video inspiration for the Elections, and then came across this video. I was thinking maybe 20,000 Students in lectures, in the library, in the waterhole, whatever, singing this song. An inspirational way of encouraging involvement.

Memolio – Flikr meets business card
Dec 11th
If I had noticed these earlier, I would have definitely made a few for Christmas presents!
As it is, they could be a very cool addition to a presentation or form part of a campaign. At €15 each they are not exactly disposable, but could definitely be useful for small audiences. See memolio.com. I noticed this post on the very informative springwise.com
