The Pompey Snow Riders have been more active in the 2007-2008 season than ever before . With the club growing in number for the fifth successive year, now punching through the 350 member milestone, the club and its members have a lot to report on.

The very active committee prepared the members for the coming year by organising 'The Extreme Sports Night', which was the first time a sports club has organised an event in the Students’ Union.

With two fine bands taking to the stage, support from one of Portsmouth’s local DJs, and with the main act, Erb ‘N’ Dub and his MC, the 900+ strong crowd left the venue at 2pm so stoked the majority, if not all, were asking when the next will be.

In the build up to the December 2007 tour, the clubs social secs managed to squeeze in four amazing pub crawls, including a hilarious Halloween event and a Traffic Light night of mischief.

In early December, the Safari pub crawl rocked up to a packed Union as the club managed to round up some members who fancied learning some new moves for the 2007 Inter Club Charity Dance Off.

Due to their hard efforts, weekly rehearsals, and a dance routine which included the Cadbury Ape drumming to Phil Collins, the club just missed out on first place, finishing second. Well done boys and girls... and apes!

‘07 saw UPSSC organise the biggest, and arguably the best tour in the club’s and UoP history. Sold out at 240, people who didn’t make it onto the list to Val Thorens actually organised their own transport as they did not want to miss this trip.

The committee and the tour reps were outstanding and we'd like to thank every member as well, since the behaviour of the Pompey Riders was spot on, despite the inevitable drunken banter on the brilliantly organised social nights, and many stories which we won't repeat here!

Slope conditions were perfect; crisp, white snow, with some fresh powder and although a few injuries did occur sadly, most people enjoyed the best snow conditions VT has experienced in a decade. The DVD will be available to everyone in due course, and will be better than Star Wars.

The club have the most successful snowboard team in the last five years of any UK uni, as they were crowned national champions twice and finished in the top three overall. This season was due to put a lot of pressure on the guys.

The ski team, after the introduction of more racing talent, had huge hopes of qualifying along with their boarder team mates.

After four race meetings in the regionals, we can proudly say the boarders qualified in pure style, and the skiers broke into the top 10, in seventh place; the best result in nine years, but are yet to hear their fate for the nationals.

The snowboard and ski teams and club captains are all very proud of each racer, and are confident we can bring the cups home once more.

A big thank you to every member, as this is year has been huge so far.
