A student who graduated from the University of Portsmouth last year has now got a job at Central Point, a homelessness day centre in North End.

They offer a change of clothing, showers, a hot meal for only 50p, ‘Big Issue’ self employment and training, and assistance in employment, accommodation and drug and mental health problems.

This winter, the staff at Central Point are in the process of planning a ‘sleep-out’ to raise awareness about homelessness in the city. At the moment they are planning the event to take place in January and they’re hoping that students will go along and show their support.

One of their vendors, Ray, is also planning to dress as Father Christmas and vend the ‘Big Issue’ outside the Union in the run up to Christmas and they hope that students will be very generous.

Christmas is a very difficult time for homeless people and we hope that everyone will show their support.
