Winners!!!

On Wednesday 5th December, the girlies from Pompey Polo Club took on the challenge of Southampton and Winchester University's Polo clubs in a local derby at Maywood Polo Centre, near Sutton Scotney.

There was two main tournaments: a beginners and a novice. We had two teams in the beginners (where we took on Winchest and Southampton) and one in the novice (just against Southampton).

The first chukka we had was against Southampton and was very tough. The horses seemed very fired up and raring to go which was great and we set off taking the ball down the wall, keeping possession. The team of "Jennys" were working well as a team and covering each others back and played solidly. The first goal of the game came very quickly as Southampton fouled badly and gave us a 15 yard penalty. Jenny L lined up and woh, what a hit! Unfortunately in the dying minute of the chukka Southampton conceded 2 goals.

The second chukka in the beginner's section was against Winchester who we thrashed 3-0! Aimee T on Gordita was fab - taking the ball up several times out of the way of the opposition and finished perfectly every time!

The results were given out at the end of this tournament and we came first overall on goal difference! We were rewarded with two bottles of wine and the sight of the instructor falling over

After the brief break, our amazing novice girlies took on the might of Southampton - always a bit of a grudge match! Kim was amazing as ever, controlling the ball like the best with Gemma and Emily providing strong support. The chukka finished 4-2 in our favour and the girls were crowned Novice Champions and gained a sexy little polo mallet trophy and some champers!!!

I'd just like to say well done to all our girls as for many it was the first competitive chukka they have played and we have high expectation of the upcoming SUPA Championships!!! 2nd last year: let's go one better in 2008!!!
