Adding videos and music to your blog, news or web pages

We have made it easier to add a video to your UPSU.net content - now it only takes a few clicks to add a video hosted on any website to your blog, or any other UPSU content.

How

  1. To get started, create a new blog entry
Click herepopup to open a new blog entry in a new window.
You will need to be signed inpopup first
  2. Type any title for your blog entry, e.g. "My First UPSU Video" (feel free to choose a better title...!).
  3. You can set it to "unpublished" if you don't want anyone else to see you testing at this stage.
  4. In a new browser window, choose a video from any of the following video sharing websites (however, please don't choose any content which is rated "adult"):
    • YouTube.com
    • Google Video
    • Yahoo!
    • Metacafe
    • ... or upload a video of your own to a hosting website in any of the following formats:
      • Flash (".flv")
      • ShockWave (".swf")
      • AVI
      • Windows Media (".wmv")
      • Real Media (".rm" or ".ram")
      • Movie (".mov")
      • MPEG (".mpg" or ".mpeg")
    • ... or choose an MP3 hosted on the internet.
  5. For YouTube, Google, Yahoo and Metacafe, find out your video's ID number or name (highlighted in bold in the URLs below):
    • YouTube:
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkqjwUtWvfg

    • Google Video:
      http://video.google.co...

    • Yahoo! Sorry, we don't know!

    • MetaCafe:

  6. Click the appropriate button on the bottom of the screen, highlighted in pink below, to insert the video's "tag":

    Editor buttons

  7. In between the curly brackets in the middle, (e.g. " }{ " ), type the video's ID. For the examples above you would get:
(Note that curly brackets have been replaced with square ones here)

  • YouTube:

  • MetaCafe:

  • Google Video:

  • N.b.: your video will also be shown in your blog's RSS feed, so anyone subscribing to your feed using most common feed readers will be able to view your video in their reader. You can find out more about RSS here.
